Who is 2face Idibia?

Biography and career




2face Idibia grew up in a middle-class family with his parents and three brothers. His father was a civil servant and his mother was a housewife. He attended Mount Saint Gabriel's Secondary School in Makurdi, Benue State. He then enrolled at the Institute of Management & Technology (IMT) in Enugu, where he studied Business Administration and Management. However, he dropped out of school to pursue his music career.


While in IMT, he performed at school shows and parties, as well as other regional schools. He also composed and sang jingles at the GB Fan Club at Enugu State Broadcasting Services (ESBS) in 1996. In the same year, he adopted the stage name "2Face" (Tuface). He said he wanted to separate his personal life from his business life.


In 1998, he moved to Lagos and formed the group Plantashun Boiz with Blackface Naija and Faze. The group released two successful albums: Body and Soul (2000) and Sold Out (2003) under Nelson Brown's label (Dove Records). The group disbanded in 2004 due to personal differences.


In 2004, 2face Idibia launched his solo career with his debut album Face 2 Face under Kennis Music label. The album was a huge success, selling over two million copies in Nigeria alone. It also contained the song African Queen, which became an international hit and earned him several awards and nominations. The song was also used as a soundtrack for the Hollywood movie Phat Girlz (2006), starring Mo'Nique.
